The 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen. was formed in March 1942 from Volksdeutsche (ethnic German) volunteers from the Banat, the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), Hungary and Romania, and was initially named the SS-Freiwilligen-Division Prinz Eugen. (SS-Volunteer Division Prinz Eugen). It was engaged in anti-Partisan operations in the territory of the defeated Kingdom of Yugoslavia during World War II.
