Death
Like his parents, Laura who died at 57 and Evelyn who died at 62, Auberon Waugh, a lifelong smoker, succumbed relatively young: to heart disease at the age of 61. He is buried in the Church of St Peter & St Paul, Combe Florey. Press obituaries were lengthy, and the headline "Auberon Waugh dies" was printed on the placards for the day's London Evening Standard.

Famous quotes containing the word death:
“All societies on the verge of death are masculine. A society can survive with only one man; no society will survive a shortage of women.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
“Human life consists in mutual service. No grief, pain, misfortune, or broken heart, is excuse for cutting off ones life while any power of service remains. But when all usefulness is over, when one is assured of an unavoidable and imminent death, it is the simplest of human rights to choose a quick and easy death in place of a slow and horrible one.”
—Charlotte Perkins Gilman (18601935)
“They can rule the world while they can persuade us
our pain belongs in some order.
Is death by famine worse than death by suicide,
than a life of famine and suicide ... ?”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
