Breed Issues
The neonatal calf is so large that Caesarean sections are routinely done. Double-muscled cows also can experience dystocia, even when bred to normal beef bulls or dairy bulls, because of a narrower birth canal. In addition to the dam’s reduced pelvic dimensions, the calf’s birth weight and width are increased, in turn making parturition harder. The bull’s testicular weight and semen quantity and quality have been observed as reduced, however this seems to be less of an issue when compared to the dam's difficulties calving.

Famous quotes containing the words breed and/or issues:
“They make other nations seem pale and flighty,
But they do think England is God almighty,
And you must remind them now and then
That other countries breed other men.”
—Alice Duer Miller (18741942)
“The universal moments of child rearing are in fact nothing less than a confrontation with the most basic problems of living in society: a facing through ones children of all the conflicts inherent in human relationships, a clarification of issues that were unresolved in ones own growing up. The experience of child rearing not only can strengthen one as an individual but also presents the opportunity to shape human relationships of the future.”
—Elaine Heffner (20th century)
