Final Days
Ceolfrid apparently knew that he was coming to the end of his life, and so he resigned his post and was succeeded by Hwaetberht. He then set sail for Rome with the intent of delivering a copy of the Vulgate Codex to the presiding Pope, Gregory I. He made it as far as Langres, where he died.
