Crompton & Knowles expanded the specialty chemical business through acquisitions in the United States and Europe, including the 1996 acquisition of Uniroyal Chemical Company, the 1999 merger with Witco Corporation, and the acquisition of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation in 2005, at which time it became Chemtura Corporation.
