Clash cymbals are cymbals played in identical pairs by holding one cymbal in each hand and striking the two together.
They are also called hand cymbals, however a hand cymbal can also be a suspended cymbal struck by hand rather than with a beater, and crash cymbals, however a crash cymbal is more commonly a medium sized and strongly tapered suspended cymbal struck with a drum stick.

Famous quotes containing the word clash:
“Saint, do you weep? I hear amid the thunder
The Fenian horses; armour torn asunder;
Laughter and cries. The armies clash and shock,
And now the daylight-darkening ravens flock.
Cease, cease, O mournful, laughing Fenian horn!”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
