Cuju is an ancient ball game with similarities to association football. It is seen by FIFA as the earliest form of football for which there is evidence, being first mentioned as a military training exercise in the 2nd-3rd centaury BCE. This assertion is however contrived as association football was based on Cambridge rules football the origins of which can be traced back to a very different ball game known as "Mob football" first played in Britain during the Middle Ages. Cuju originated in China, and was also played in Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
