Fort Hood - Anti-war Activity

Anti-war Activity

Fort Hood has served as a hub for anti-war activity during both the Vietnam War and the War on Terror.

From 1968-1972, the Oleo Strut was a G.I. coffeehouse located near post in Killeen, Texas. The coffee house was featured in the documentary Sir! No Sir! (2005).

In 2009, the tradition of The Oleo Strut continued when the Under the Hood Café opened. The location serves as an outreach center for antiwar activists to reach out to area soldiers, and provide them with support.

Recently several soldiers supported by Under the Hood haven taken public acts of resistance, including Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience Travis Bishop.

Famous quotes containing the word activity:

With two sons born eighteen months apart, I operated mainly on automatic pilot through the ceaseless activity of their early childhood. I remember opening the refrigerator late one night and finding a roll of aluminum foil next to a pair of small red tennies. Certain that I was responsible for the refrigerated shoes, I quickly closed the door and ran upstairs to make sure I had put the babies in their cribs instead of the linen closet.
