Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue - Operations Division - Ocean Rescue

Ocean Rescue

Ocean Rescue is led by a civilian Ocean Rescue Chief and is composed of over 40 civilian lifeguards with specialty training in ocean tactics and procedures. They are responsible for staffing the city’s lifeguard stands located throughout Fort Lauderdale Beach, and also have floating lifeguard positions moving throughout the beach to respond and assist with any emergencies. Their headquarters is located at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, just south of Las Olas Blvd on A1A. The Chief (Breck Ballou) of Ocean Rescue reports to the Assistant Chief of Operations, with himself, Battalion 13 and Division 2 handling all operational issues beyond normal day-to-day functions.

Famous quotes containing the words ocean and/or rescue:

It would be better for men
To be few and live far apart, where none could infect another; then
slowly the sanity of field and mountain
And the cold ocean and glittering stars might enter their minds.
    Robinson Jeffers (1887–1962)

We live in a time which has created the art of the absurd. It is our art. It contains happenings, Pop art, camp, a theater of the absurd.... Do we have the art because the absurd is the patina of waste...? Or are we face to face with a desperate or most rational effort from the deepest resources of the unconscious of us all to rescue civilization from the pit and plague of its bedding?
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
