Freestyle Music

Freestyle or Latin freestyle is a form of dance-pop or electronic dance music that emerged in the United States in the mid-1980s. It experienced its greatest popularity from the late-1980s until the early '90s, when other musics such as hip hop, reggae, and trance took over stations that played freestyle. It continues to be produced today and enjoys some degree of popularity, especially in the urban communities where Hispanics and Italian Americans are found.

Notable performers in the freestyle genre include Stevie B, Timmy T, George Lamond, TKA, Noel, Company B, Exposé, The Cover Girls, Information Society, Sa-Fire, Johnny O, Cynthia, Coro, Lisette Melendez, Judy Torres, Rockell and many others. The music can be heard on some radio stations such as WKTU in New York City or on AOL Radio by clicking on '80s Dance channel under "Dance/Electronic" genre.
