Plagiarism Lawsuit
Her book Passages was a national bestseller. In 1975 Roger Gould, then a psychiatrist at the University of California at Los Angeles, brought a nuisance suit against Sheehy intended to enjoin publication of her book, which had not yet been completed. Sheehy had quoted Gould, with full attribution, in an article appearing in a free newsletter from the Alicia Patterson Foundation, "The APF Reporter, “ as consistent with her award of a one-year fellowship by the foundation. New York magazine reprinted her pro bono article without payment. The suit was settled out of court.
