Greensleeves - Media

Media

The earliest known source of the tune (Trinity College, Dublin ms. D. I. 21, c. 1580 - known as "William Ballet's lute book") gives the tune in the melodic minor scale. "Greensleeves" is also often played in a natural minor scale and sometimes in the Dorian mode. Although the above printed example is printed with E naturals, the recording features E-flats, thus making it sound minor as opposed to Dorian in mode.

Additionally, the song is often used by ice cream vans to indicate their presence in a given area.

Famous quotes containing the word media:

The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western World. No First World country has ever managed to eliminate so entirely from its media all objectivity—much less dissent.
    Gore Vidal (b. 1925)

The media network has its idols, but its principal idol is its own style which generates an aura of winning and leaves the rest in darkness. It recognises neither pity nor pitilessness.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

Few white citizens are acquainted with blacks other than those projected by the media and the so—called educational system, which is nothing more than a system of rewards and punishments based upon one’s ability to pledge loyalty oaths to Anglo culture. The media and the “educational system” are the prime sources of racism in the United States.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
