Home Island

Home Island, also known locally as Pulu Selma, is one of only two permanently inhabited islands of the 26 islands of the Southern Atoll of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian Overseas Territory in the central-eastern Indian Ocean. It is 0.95 kmĀ² in area and contains the largest settlement of the territory, Bantam, with a population of about 500 Cocos Malay people.

Famous quotes containing the words home and/or island:

I come from the city of Boston,
The home of the bean and the cod,
    John Collins Bossidy (1860–1928)

I ... would rather be in dependance on Great Britain, properly limited, than on any nation upon earth, or than on no nation. But I am one of those too who rather than submit to the right of legislating for us assumed by the British parliament, and which late experience has shewn they will so cruelly exercise, would lend my hand to sink the whole island in the ocean.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
