History
This station was started on December 24, 1953 by a group of calling themselves Delta Broadcasting originally with a power of 500 watts and at a frequency of 630 kHz with a variety format. In 1966, a sister station was added at 106.3 FM which later became KXOR-FM. In 1973 both stations were sold with the AM station being bought by a group calling themselves LaTerr Broadcasting and installing a country music format at the time. In 1986, the station upgraded to the present facilities and moved to the present frequency of 640 kHz. In 1989, the station flipped to a standards format and during the 1990s moved to an oldies format. The station was sold in 1999 to Delta Starr broadcasting and during their ownership, the format was later supplanted by a news/talk format with sports on the weekends.
In 2005, the station was taken dark by one of the three owners claiming the station was unable to pay its bills. Lawsuits were filed claiming mismanagement by one of the partners of LaTerr Broadcasting, and the station was ultimately put into bankruptcy protection and was sold by the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy court to Gap Broadcasting LLC (A Florida LLC) in late 2006 who returned the station to the air in February 2007 with an oldies/Talk format.
This station is of note, as it is officially owned by a Gap Broadcasting LLC that was incorporated as a Florida Limited Liability Corporation but is owned completely by owner George Laughlin. He is also in charge of an investor led Gap Broadcasting LLC which was incorporated in Delaware and owns many stations bought from Clear Channel Communications.
The Station in February 2010 flipped from a oldies based format to a variety hits format calling themselves "The Balcony- Music We Like"

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“There has never been in history another such culture as the Western civilization M a culture which has practiced the belief that the physical and social environment of man is subject to rational manipulation and that history is subject to the will and action of man; whereas central to the traditional cultures of the rivals of Western civilization, those of Africa and Asia, is a belief that it is environment that dominates man.”
—Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
“Every library should try to be complete on something, if it were only the history of pinheads.”
—Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (18091894)
“The best history is but like the art of Rembrandt; it casts a vivid light on certain selected causes, on those which were best and greatest; it leaves all the rest in shadow and unseen.”
—Walter Bagehot (18261877)
