Occurrence
The occurrence of normal distribution in practical problems can be loosely classified into three categories:
- Exactly normal distributions;
- Approximately normal laws, for example when such approximation is justified by the central limit theorem; and
- Distributions modeled as normal – the normal distribution being the distribution with maximum entropy for a given mean and variance.

Famous quotes containing the word occurrence:
“One is absolutely sickened, not by the crimes that the wicked have committed, but by the punishments that the good have inflicted; and a community is infinitely more brutalised by the habitual employment of punishment than it is by the occasional occurrence of crime.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
