Medical Record Controversy
On September 21, 2007, actor George Clooney and a companion were taken to Palisades Medical Center for treatment after a motorcycle accident. Information that Clooney was a patient at the hospital was disseminated to the media before any official hospital statement, leading officials to suspect an internal leak. The hospital conducted an audit and announced that 27 employees had accessed Clooney's information without prior authorization. All 27 employees were suspended for one month without pay. The employees included nurses, support staff, and security guards, but no physicians. A union representing some staff is challenging seven of the suspensions.

Famous quotes containing the words medical, record and/or controversy:
“Every day our garments become more assimilated to ourselves, receiving the impress of the wearers character, until we hesitate to lay them aside without such delay and medical appliances and some such solemnity even as our bodies.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“... many of the things which we deplore, the prevalence of tuberculosis, the mounting record of crime in certain sections of the country, are not due just to lack of education and to physical differences, but are due in great part to the basic fact of segregation which we have set up in this country and which warps and twists the lives not only of our Negro population, but sometimes of foreign born or even of religious groups.”
—Eleanor Roosevelt (18841962)
“And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.”
—Thomas Hobbes (15791688)
