Executive Branch

The president and vice president are directly elected through universal suffrage and limited to one term. A vice president can run for president after four years out of office. In the latest elections, which took place in 2011, Retired General Otto Pérez Molina of the Patriotic Party won the presidential election in a runoff against populist Manuel Baldizón of the LIDER party.

Famous quotes containing the words executive and/or branch:

When you give power to an executive you do not know who will be filling that position when the time of crisis comes.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

When I am finishing a picture I hold some God-made object up to it—a rock, a flower, the branch of a tree or my hand—as a kind of final test. If the painting stands up beside a thing man cannot make, the painting is authentic. If there’s a clash between the two, it is bad art.
    Marc Chagall (1889–1985)
