Saṃsāra - Samsara in Buddhism

Samsara in Buddhism

Samsara is a key part of what is taught in Buddhism. Many Buddhist believe that it is this cycle of rebirth, that causes us to suffer lives in the six realms. Karma is believed to play a key role in deciding which of the six realms one can be reborn in. In Buddhism, enlightenment is the only escape from Samsara, by which one reaches a state of nirvana, a state that is beyond the suffering of Samsara.

Famous quotes containing the word buddhism:

A religion so cheerless, a philosophy so sorrowful, could never have succeeded with the masses of mankind if presented only as a system of metaphysics. Buddhism owed its success to its catholic spirit and its beautiful morality.
    W. Winwood Reade (1838–1875)
