Simulation in Entertainment
Simulation in entertainment encompasses many large and popular industries such as film, television, video games (including serious games) and rides in theme parks. Although modern simulation is thought to have its roots in training and the military, in the 20th century it also became a conduit for enterprises which were more hedonistic in nature. Advances in technology in the 1980s and 1990s caused simulation to become more widely used and it began to appear in movies such as Jurassic Park (1993) and in computer-based games such as Atari’s Battlezone.

Famous quotes containing the word simulation:
“Life, as the most ancient of all metaphors insists, is a journey; and the travel book, in its deceptive simulation of the journeys fits and starts, rehearses lifes own fragmentation. More even than the novel, it embraces the contingency of things.”
—Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)
