Task Force

A task force (TF) is a unit or formation established to work on a single defined task or activity. Originally introduced by the Royal Navy, the term has now caught on for general usage and is a standard part of NATO terminology. Many non-military organizations now create "task forces" or task groups for temporary activities that might have once been performed by ad hoc committees.

Famous quotes containing the words task and/or force:

The long day’s task is done,
    And we must sleep.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

When we can drain the Ocean into mill-ponds, and bottle up the Force of Gravity, to be sold by retail, in gas jars; then may we hope to comprehend the infinitudes of man’s soul under formulas of Profit and Loss; and rule over this too, as over a patent engine, by checks, and valves, and balances.
    Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881)
