Underarm - Boundaries

Boundaries

Anatomically, the boundaries of the axilla are:

superiorly: by the outer border of first rib, superior border of scapula, and posterior border of clavicle
medially: serratus anterior and by the ribcage anteriorly: by the pectoralis major, minor, and subclavius (see also anterior axillary fold)

posteriorly: by the subscapularis above, and teres major and latissimus dorsi below (see also posterior axillary fold)

laterally: by the intertubercular sulcus (coracobrachialis and the short head of the biceps brachii are in the axilla.)
floor/base: by the skin (visible surface of armpit)

The contents of the axilla include the axillary vein and artery, as well as the brachial plexus, lymph nodes and fat. Axilla is the space between the side of the thorax and the upper arm.

Famous quotes containing the word boundaries:

Whereas the Greeks gave to will the boundaries of reason, we have come to put the will’s impulse in the very center of reason, which has, as a result, become deadly.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Not too many years ago, a child’s experience was limited by how far he or she could ride a bicycle or by the physical boundaries that parents set. Today ... the real boundaries of a child’s life are set more by the number of available cable channels and videotapes, by the simulated reality of videogames, by the number of megabytes of memory in the home computer. Now kids can go anywhere, as long as they stay inside the electronic bubble.
    Richard Louv (20th century)

We love to overlook the boundaries which we do not wish to pass.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
