Personal Life
Cronenberg lives in Toronto. His seven-year marriage to Margaret Hindson ended in 1979. They had one child, a daughter, Cassandra Cronenberg. He married Carolyn Zeifman, production assistant on Rabid. They have two children, Caitlin and Brandon. In the 1992 book Cronenberg on Cronenberg, he revealed that The Brood was inspired by events that occurred during the unraveling of his first marriage, which caused both Cronenberg and his daughter Cassandra a great deal of turmoil. The character Nola Carveth, mother of the brood, is based on Cassandra's mother. Cronenberg said that he found the shooting of the climactic scene, in which Nola was strangled by her husband, to be "very satisfying".
Cronenberg refers to himself a "nonbeliever" who sees death as the "end of all consciousness." He was born to a Jewish family.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:
“In the weakness of one kind of authority, and in the fluctuation of all, the officers of an army will remain for some time mutinous and full of faction, until some popular general, who understands the art of conciliating the soldiery, and who possesses the true spirit of command, shall draw the eyes of all men upon himself. Armies will obey him on his personal account. There is no other way of securing military obedience in this state of things.”
—Edmund Burke (17291797)
“Eroticism is assenting to life even in death.”
—Georges Bataille (18971962)
