Torpedo - Launch Platforms and Launchers

Launch Platforms and Launchers

Further information: Torpedo tube

Torpedoes may be launched from submarines, surface ships, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned naval mines and naval fortresses. They are also used in conjunction with other weapons; for example the Mark 46 torpedo used by the United States becomes the warhead section of the ASROC (Anti-Submarine ROCket) and the CAPTOR mine (CAPsulated TORpedo) is a submerged sensor platform which releases a torpedo when a hostile contact is detected.

Famous quotes containing the words launch and/or platforms:

Now launch the small ship, now as the body dies
and life departs, launch out, the fragile soul
in the fragile ship of courage, the ark of faith
with its store of food and little cooking pans
    and change of clothes,
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

I would rather be known as an advocate of equal suffrage than to speak every night on the best-paying platforms in the United States and ignore it.
    Anna Howard Shaw (1847–1919)
