Famous quotes containing the words josephine miles and/or miles:

Therefore it was surprising that, as we kept the newspapers from
    Mother,
She died feeling responsible for a disaster unverified,
Murmuring, in her sleep as it seemed, the ancient slogan
    Noblesse oblige.
    Josephine Miles (1911–1985)

For these are moments only, moments of insight,
And there are reaches to be attained,
A last level of anxiety that melts
In becoming, like miles under the pilgrim’s feet.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
